92.000.000 Tunnel Users

On a clear and exceptionally frosty but beautiful winter’s day, the Warnow Tunnel celebrated another milestone. This morning, the 92 millionth vehicle since the tunnel opening rolled through the toll station.

Mr. and Mrs. Burmeister were sitting in the vehicle. They were very surprised when, immediately after passing through, their vehicle was welcomed for a ceremonial tribute. In recognition of this special passage, the managing director of the Warnow Tunnel, Yvonne Osterkamp, presented them with an extensive gift package that made the day even more special. In keeping with the million mark reached, Mr. and Mrs. Burmeister received a fuel voucher worth €92.00 and a Grönfingers voucher worth €50.00. To enable them to enjoy the special view of the Hanseatic city away from the road, they were also given the latest edition of Helmut Aude’s “Rostocker Panoramen” (Rostock Panoramas). The anniversary package was rounded off with a modern Warnow Tunnel induction charging pad and a selection of other great gifts.

On this cold February day, the joy at reaching this milestone was clearly visible on the faces of both the winners and the employees on site. Mr. and Mrs. Burmeister were on their way back from Warnemünde to their home in Kösterbek. Mrs. Burmeister used to cross the Warnow every day, but since retiring she still regularly takes the fastest route through Rostock. “92 million is quite a milestone,” said Mr. Burmeister. He has known and used the tunnel since it opened, adding, “It’s simply faster to go through the tunnel to Warnemünde than around it.” Incidentally, the anniversary celebrants have installed an RFID strip in their vehicle: the easiest and most convenient way to pass through the Warnow Tunnel.

As a fast and reliable connection for the people in the region, the Warnow Tunnel has enjoyed enduring importance since its inception. Even in the coldest temperatures, the Warnow crossing team ensures that everything runs smoothly so that the next million passages can be handled just as safely.

We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Burmeister for using the tunnel and wish them a safe journey at all times.
