We would like to inform you that the existing number plate recognition system at our toll station has been expanded and is now available in additional lanes.
In recent weeks, additional so-called OCR cameras (Optical Character Recognition) have been installed in lanes 3, 4 and 5 in both directions of travel. If you have activated number plate recognition, you can now also use these lanes.
Why is the number plate recognition used? In some vehicles it may be the case that the installation of our RFID strips is not possible due to the design (e.g. with a heated windscreen). In order to still be able to benefit from the simplest and quickest payment option, it is possible to switch to number plate recognition with the customer’s consent. In this case, the recognition of the number plate is fully automatic, as with the regular recording of an RFID strip or TAG device, and you can drive slowly through the toll plaza without stopping.
In doing so, Warnowtunnel observes the legal provisions on data protection. Number plates of customers who have not activated OCR recognition are not registered or stored.
