Friday the 13th does not necessarily have to be an unlucky day. Jenny Petrick and Steve Zimmermann were able to experience today at the Warnowtunnel that the opposite can be the case and it can be a lucky day. The owners of the popular Samba cocktail bar in Warnemünde drove through the tunnel at around half past nine in the morning and were surprised by a welcoming committee. Yvonne Osterkamp and Otter Oscar welcomed the 89 millionth vehicle since the tunnel opened in 2003.
Even the weather was at its best and the sun shone just as brightly as the faces of our title holders. Of course, they didn’t expect this. “I’ve been using the tunnel almost every day,” said Mr. Zimmermann, “for many years. When someone stood by our car wearing a high-visibility vest, we initially thought we had done something wrong.” But they were absolutely right, because they were in the right place at exactly the right time. The tunnel’s managing director, Yvonne Osterkamp, was the first to congratulate them. The congratulations were accompanied by beautiful gifts. Tunnel mascot Otter Oscar presented a large, beautiful bouquet of flowers with an otter stuffed animal, two tickets for Rostock Zoo, an 89-euro fuel voucher, a Warnowtunnel windshield sunshade and a few other little things.
The two winners were delighted with the unexpected honor. “We are on our way from Warnemünde to the Handelshof in Brinkmannsdorf. The tunnel is simply the fastest connection for this.” If you use the Warnowtunnel as often as Mr. Zimmermann, it is best to use our tunnel card, the tunnel strip or the tunnel box by direct debit. This is a convenient way to travel throughout the year at reduced rates and the toll is debited fully automatically.
We would like to thank Jenny Petrick and Steve Zimmermann for their loyalty and wish them and all tunnel drivers a safe and pleasant journey at all times.
